ABOUT THE HOST

MY ARMOR
In his My Armor podcast, Mikey Esparza brings his wit and grit together with his Christian walk and talk. This smooth-headed man with the appealing voice and easy laugh is definitely a paradox. With his tattooed arms, and steely gaze, he embraces the “tough guy” look in his publicity photos. But in reality, Esparza is a man with a big heart who readily admits his frailties; who rises to professional and personal challenges; who leads an organized campaign against cruelty; and who is far more likely to try to save your soul than hurt a hair on your head.

THE PODCAST
Mikey makes it very clear that he’s no theologian, nor a preacher or biblical scholar. He’s merely a guy who loves Jesus and loves to share what the Bible has to say about our lives today. From topical issues we all face to current events and their influences on the decisions we make, Mikey provides his Biblically based insights on what God teaches him week-to-week and day-to-day. With that perspective, Mikey waxes retrospectively, introspectively and scripturally as he takes a good hard look at the role Jesus has played in his life’s story as well as the starring role he’s waiting to play in your story, too.

PODCASTER BIO
Mikey Esparza has been a radio personality at KCBQ radio in San Diego and then in San Jose at KSJO, with an evening show that also aired in Dallas. This was where he first created “The Mikey” show, with his colorful cast of characters and his penchant for the outrageous. Mikey has many colorful tales to tell in his journey to become a Christian. In 2003, he surrendered his life to Jesus. In his words, he was toned down, but still edgy, and in 2004, he finally admitted he had a drinking problem and checked himself into the Betty Ford Center. That’s where he began the process of kicking his habit and actually living the Christ-like life.

Mikey works with a Christian organization called Outside the Bowl. Based in Carlsbad, it helps poverty-stricken countries by building super-kitchens that feed hungry children with as many as 2,000 meals per day.

With his BeDifferentpact.org, Esparza says he hopes to change American culture. Celebrities and listeners alike have signed the pact and wear the black bracelet in an effort to draw attention to their efforts. “We live in a culture that celebrates meanness,” states Esparza. “The idea behind this movement is to think about our behavior. Let’s open doors for others, and let’s not cut them off on the freeway. Think about what you say to your family members. In short, treat people with kindness and love.”
