Matt Tague Discusses How to Read the Bible

ABOUT THE HOST

OUXANO
Did you ever hear the story about the king who was turned into a wild animal? Or the one about the army general who got leprosy? Or how about the story where a guy catches a fish, pulls a coin out of its mouth, and pays his taxes with it? The Bible is full of stories like this.

I can’t get over the Bible and its teachings. It continues to startle and amaze me. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry, it gives me encouragement, and it convicts me of my sin. This shouldn’t surprise me. If it really is God’s Word to the human race, laying out the love of God, then it should be an emotional experience for me to read it. The more I learn from it and grow in it, the more it changes me.

However, some Christians, just don’t understand what I am talking about. They read but don’t understand Bible translations written in old English and are unable to see the hidden truth about God. Many adults today did not participate in church or Sunday school as children. And let’s face it; what would the average American rather do today – read the Psalms or watch TV? All this leads many new Christians to say, “The Bible just doesn’t make sense to me.”

If this describes you, don’t despair. The fact that you have discovered this podcast shows that you want to understand what the Bible is all about. This podcast is designed to help you in your quest to increase your spiritual maturity. Read The Word podcasting topics include encouraging you in your devotional bible study, equipping you with knowledge about powerful Christian bible study methods, teaching you about Jesus, discipleship methods, applying biblical principles to your daily devotional life, and much more.

THE PODCAST
If there are passages in the Bible that you don’t understand, this podcast is for you! There are a lot of Bible study books and podcasts that tell you what to think about a specific passage or scripture but most don’t teach you how to study the whole Bible for yourself. Read The Word podcast will show you how to understand the Bible, cover to cover. After hearing Matt Tague’s short, easy to follow lessons, you will be able to confidently understand and apply the scriptures for yourself, without help from others. If you long to get serious about the Bible, this is the podcast for you!

A good place to start is the first episode of Read the Word / Ouxano which explains the various kinds of literature in the Bible and why the Bible is arranged as it is. The following episodes are dedicated to helping you correctly interpret God’s Word. This includes knowing the importance of context, culture and the like. Such awareness will give you more confidence in reading the Bible. The Bible has come to us through ancient writers. If you have a better understanding of their way of writing and their view of the world, you will grasp more of their meaning.

Further on, this podcast provides tips to help you make your time in God’s Word an enriching daily Christian devotional habit and discover all that Jesus Christ has in store for you. Devotional reading is the least practiced and most needed kind of reading among Christians today. This is, or at least should be, a staple of the Christian experience. However, gaining a basic understanding of the Bible as a whole comes first, for it greatly enhances your Christian devotional reading.
