To The Churches 16: Apologetics VIDEO

Print pagePDF pageEmail page

In this series, we will look at the facts and evidence that are the foundation to Christianity and how to use them effectively.

The word apologetics simply means, “speaking in defense”. It uses the process of systematic information as its foundation. Early Christians such as Paul and Barnabas used apologetics to simply explain the gospel to non-believers. These early apologists used the empirical evidence of who Jesus is along with their own personal testimonies to win people over to Jesus.

One major problem we face today is that 1/5 of Americans believe that the Bible is merely a book of ancient fables, legends and selective history. Only 1/3 believe that it is the actual word of God.

I believe that this alone is a sad commentary on the Bible’s place in our nations’ consciousness and the lack of most Christian’s ability to present and explain Jesus’ good news.

1 Peter 3:15 says, “Always be prepared to give an account to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”

Christianity is unique from the world’s other religions for many reasons. One of which is that there is secular historical evidence proving that the events of the Bible actually occurred.

It’s been historically proven that Jesus did exist. He proved that He was God. He died. He rose from the dead. There is irrefutable evidence for all of this.

A few excellent books that can help you in your pursuit of understanding Christian apologetics are:

“More Than A Carpenter” by Josh McDowell

“Evidence That Demands A Verdict” by Josh McDowell

“The Case For Christ” by Lee Strobel

“The Case for Faith” by Lee Strobel

Now, not all of us are called to be amazing apologists or deep theologians. But we are all called to know what Jesus has done for us, what he continues to do for us and how to share these facts with other people.
